He crept in unannounced and became a house hold name with one single and a phrase that has found its way into the everyday vocabulary of the average Ghanaian. Real name Kweku Zigi Plahar, Zigi with his "U Sey Weytin" chant is set to release his debut album under the stables of the Lynx Record Label.
The album P.O.P – Prince Of Pop will be a mixed album with a generalized pop theme, a genre not so popular to our music scene. The album is set to be launched in October with details still pending approval from his management.
He entered the entertainment industry as a break dancer. His outstanding figure gave him a bill up as a model. His modeling profile expounds through gigs for Smirnoff, MTN, and Canoe Magazine.
Currently he is a student of political science in the University of Ghana. He signed on with Lynx in August 2009 due to his outstanding musical flexibility. He was grandly outdoored on the 30th of January 2010 inside the plush Aphrodisiac.
His launching regardless of the fact that he had only a single to his credit was stunningly successful. His collaboration league spans from Asem, Eazzy, Sonni Balli, Richie, Tinny and Guru.
"If you look at me, I will dance like a butterfly", if you are not privy to these lines then you are probably a visitor or better still an alien to this land. I can't say I didn't see it coming, I obviously did but it took the spectacle at Citi FM's "DECEMBA 2 REMEMBA" to believe that the last signet to the Lynx record label had actually scored that major breakthrough.
It was simply breathtaking, he didn't even have to step on stage to get the crowd enchanted. When he stepped on stage it was simply unbelievable, his stage presence erupted a crowd reaction completely ironic and contrasting to his image as an upcoming artiste. His stage flair and control mechanism as an act seem unparalleled and presented him as a protege and a master of his act. With just two singles to his name and a couple of collaborations across board, the sky scraps his beginning. His prospects are unfathomable and his place is definitely secured.
If anybody doubted the ability of Ghanaian artistes to do live performances, they might as well revise their notes. The likes of Becca and Samini have already made their names as established live performers. Richie and Zigi are the latest to be added to the league of extraordinary live performers following their exceptional display at the just ended LOUD IN GH concert.
The show which seems to have been surrounded with controversy since it happened at the Conference center seems to have paraded some of the finest acts in Ghana and this time have them do the unusual. Richie and Zigi opened the show alongside record label compatriot Eazzy and gave the show the grandness it deserved. Conforming to key notes and switching with flows and modulations is no easy task but these two gallant acts proved to Ghanaians that they could take it wherever they wanted and still rule.
From a beat maker, to song writer, to musician, to award winning producer and now an exceptional live performer, Richie has it all and deserves all the plaudits for it. Zigi on the other hand deserves a presidential handshake. He proved to everybody that his graduation from the class of upcoming artistes to mainstream artist was due. He is definitely a huge force to reckon with, a talent of unparalleled flair and finesse.
