Several months after he refused to comment about rape allegations leveled against him some time this year, Ghanaian rapper Asem, born Nana Wiafe Asante Mensah, has finally replied critics via his new single titled ‘Last Song’, produced by Magnom.

The song’s lyrics tried to tackle the problems that he went through the year, from rape allegations and his GLO deal to his issues with Lynx Entertainment. The song, he said, was his last for the year 2011, labeling the year as tough for him.

Its lyrics spoke about how he was not afraid of certain people who wanted to take his shine away from him. He also took some time to describe his kind of women, possibly trying to hint that the girl in the rape brouhaha was not his type. “I like girl wey dey shoto with glory, independent girls with their bottom glory,” he rapped.

“If I didn’t say it they say I say it. I didn’t rape, they say I raped. They get like I stop singing. But because of GLO, I’m satisfied. This be the last song of the year, so lend me your eyes. I know yea you have been waiting for this.” Sometime this year, the hip-hop musician allegedly drugged, raped and impregnated a teenage girl.

The girl’s name was given simply as Queenie and her real age remains a mystery. She claimed to be 17 but her mother swore heaven and earth she was 15. The matter got complicated as both daughter and mother said the pregnancy had been aborted and that the alleged rape happened last year but no police report was made.

Asem flatly denied all three allegations but said he would not pass comments on it publicly because his management intended taking a legal action against his accusers. Not long after, Asem parted ways with Lynx Entertainment to form his record label.

Asem is a product of the Ghana Institute of Journalism and had his secondary education at St. Peter’s Senior High School. He is currently one of the best artistes that Lynx Entertainment ever recorded and is best remembered for hit songs like ‘Give Me Blow’, ‘2010 Filla’, ‘Wu B3 Da Ntem’, ‘No More Kpayor’, ‘School De Be’ and ‘Pigaro’.

I always say Asem is Ghana’s Kanye, Well he’s one of my favorite rappers. He’s creative and he used to hold “Lynx Entertainment”. Since he left Lynx has faded totally. So far Asem is the only dude who can stand the Tema boys without even trying. Well I know some people won’t agree with me on this.

Check out his latest addition, it’s definitely the last song of the year as he’s combined all the hit songs and stories in the industry. Only a few people can do this. Take a listen here, exclusively on GhanaMusic.co.uk and be the judge

This Christmas season was full of surprises, bringing us some of the very best in both events and performances and in some few instances not very encouraging ones. It would be virtually impossible to talk about events this yuletide season without mentioning the resurfacing of one of Ghana's finest and most celebrated rappers, Asem. Asem has been missing from mainstream action for a while now due to his contract with telecom giant company Globacom.

24th Night was like resurrection for the "PIGARO" rapper. For many people who trooped in to Citi FM's "Decemba 2 Rememba", Asem was all they looked forward to see. It was no surprise then when he put the conference center into  a complete pandemonium when he made his first stage appearance after a long silence. The song writer treated the enchanted crowd to his numerous hits from "No More Kpayor" to the latest one which seems to spur a lot of controversy, "Fylla 2010".

His appearance on 24th was not his only appearance for the Christmas season. The rap superstar appeared on Charterhouse's Ghana rocks where he repeated the same feat he pulled off at the December to Remember show. His appearance at the Rick Ross Concert was what really proved that, the "School dey be" song maker has earned his stripes and made his mark. His performance was sterling and incredibly on point, quite an anomaly for someone who has not been performing for a while.

His new album is due for early this year, even though unconfirmed by his management, the album promises to live up to the status and expectations of music lovers.

A critical look at our budding industry, as it crawls to the end of the year would reveal a decline in some celebrities fan base and influence and a sharp rise in the case of others. Freelance journalist, blogger and celebrity publicist, Quame Junior rates the top 10 most influential male celebrities in Ghana by a mass public-conducted vote and a critical analysis of the

Starting off from

10. Reggie Rockstone: The Grandpapa of hiplife has made this list because of the release of his Double album, Reggiestration. The splendor with which the album was launched as he marked his forty something birthday brought him right back in to the fame books. He is one of  the very few personalities whose fame can never be stripped off them but this year he is definitely in the best of shapes.

9. Chris Attoh: Chris follows up in the ninth position. Even tough the multi-talented media personality has been missing in action for a while, making appearances only when necessary, Chris is still one of Ghana's most celebrated celebrities. With the upcoming release of Sinking Sands and his return to his signature entertainment show Rhythmz he just might climb up the ladder but as it stands he is still a beloved.

8. Jon Germain: His placement in the list actually shocked me, much to my amuzement most people voted for Jon more for his music and less for his presenting (both on radio and TV), I always thaught otherwise. Having scooped nominations for 3 International Awards including the Channel  O Music Video Awards, Jon definitely has every legal and natural right to be in this list.

7. Micheal Essien: Hate him or love him, his fame and influence would wax stronger, but for his inablity to play for the Black Stars at the just ended World Cup which took place in South Africa, Micheal would have been far up the ladder. His is international recognition but as it stands now, the 7th position is where most sports and entertainment enthusiasts believe he should be and I seem to agree with them.

6.Majid Michel: As I set out to do my survey, he was one of my potential number 1's but it proved otherwise. Call him Al Pacino, call him the player, call him any of the characters he makes so real and sometimes a little surreal, whatever it is he is one of the most cherished sons of Ghana and Africa as a whole, so the next time you are thinking of some famous person to say something against, make sure Majid is out of the list  or else Ghanaians would deal with you with iron fists.

5. John Dumelo: What is more to be said, he follows in the step of his compaatriot. Theirs is to make you believe and he seems to be doing just that to the satisfaction of all those that matter so here he is.

4. Sarkodie:  With his Rappaholic album still in the works and a few mixtapes running up and about, Sarkodie is still one of the top 5 most influential celebrities in Ghana. If you have doubts, check out the nominees of the MTV Africa Music Awards.

3. Dede Ayew: South Africa did the magic for him. After South Africa he ceased  to ride on the fame of his legend father and became a name on his own. Maybe the few brand endorsements he got should be his prove.

2. Asem: He was silent for a while, allowing the 2 singles of his upcoming album "No more Kpayor" and "Suliiya" do the magic, but in the past few weeks his name has hijacked the industry unawares. With his "2010 Fylla", Asem definitely deserves the second spot and a third of the people contacted for the survey agree with me.

1. Asamoah  Gyan: At number one is the man who is known as Asamoan Gyan on field and Baby Jet in music. Let the song speak for itself.
